Congratulations!

Newly initiated members with the Phi Alpha Delta Coat of Arms
The Executive Board and Founding Members would like to offer a warm welcome to the first initiated members of the 2011-12 school year. We had a great initiation ceremony with eighteen new members! In just two months, Pitt PAD has doubled in size. This is an amazing start to the year, and we hope to continue this success.

Also, members of Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law participated in this year's Pitt Make a Difference Day. PMADD is an annual service day with over 2,600 who volunteer in 60 communities across the city. This year, Phi Alpha Delta created a team and worked together to better Pittsburgh, in keeping with our motto which includes service to the community. Thank you to everyone who participated, and let us know if there are any causes near and dear to your hearts; we'd love to work with them.

Finally, this past Thursday, PAD Pre-Law and the Indian Student Association worked together to hold Girl's Night In, a fundraising event. Our members volunteered to table and work the events, earning our organization both money and recognition on campus.

Thank you to all the members, new and old, for making this year such a success already. We can only hope to do even better.

Buffalo Leadership Symposium

Director Rupp and Pitt PAD officers
This weekend, members of the Executive Board attended a Phi Alpha Delta Leadership Symposium in Buffalo, NY. The symposium, run by our Director of Pre-Law Operations, Byron Rupp, was a great opportunity for the officers to get a better idea of the direction our PAD chapter should take. We discussed ideas for efficient recruitment, fundraising and programming as well as reviewed PAD policies. It was also an opportunity for the officers to meet other PAD chapter officers and learn how things are done at other schools. Being such a new chapter, we don't have years of tradition to build on, and it was a great opportunity to find out what works at other chapters.
We also met a group of students trying to form their own chapter at the Rochester Institute of Technology and had a chance to tell them about what it's like to found a chapter and the obstacles they'll come across on that journey. We'll talk more about the symposium at our next meeting and feel free to ask any questions you might have.
